Why Not Communicate with the Dead
The Intellectual Deception and Source of Curse Called “Prayers to Ancestors”
I. The Gross Inconsistencies of This Practice
It is good to honour one’s dead.
It is unhealthy to try to communicate with them, and illogical to address prayers to them.
It is equally illogical and unhealthy to pray to the dead of others under the pretext that they are saints.
These are all practices of demonic origin, leading to perdition and posing logical problems, as we shall see.
Indeed, consider this: when someone dies, do they suddenly gain the gift of omnipresence, allowing them to listen to their descendants or anyone else anywhere on earth?
If that were the case, every cubic millimeter of space would have to contain all the dead ancestors of all humanity since the first man!
Moreover, they supposedly gain the power to answer prayers—that is, they effectively become a god.
Death turns someone into a god, what! And once a god, they need their children, for whom they fought tooth and nail while alive, to come pray and offer sacrifices for them to do good, or else they might even harm them!
Your parents, who when on earth did everything for your good without you even asking, now supposedly become gods who will not help you unless you offer prayers and sacrifices—and if you don’t, they punish you!
People who themselves were overwhelmed by their own problems on earth, who often died from disease, war, curse, or suffering… suddenly become the ones who can solve your problems?
It is a bit like if a cow and her calf are attacked by a lion, and the cow is killed first. The calf now prays to the dead cow ancestor to protect it from the lion!
I. Why Refuse to Realize That This Simply Lacks Common Sense?
These same people will tell you that one must “change what doesn’t work” or “a formula that produces no results.”
What are the results of ancestor worship practiced in Africa for at least 5,800 years before Christianity?
-
Slavery
-
Colonization
-
Ancestral curses pronounced on populations while the ancestors were alive
-
A primarily occult and evil knowledge that cannot be publicly taught
-
Genocides of all kinds (Biafra, Cameroonian maquis…)
In short, nothing good and tangible at a social level.
Today, suddenly, this cult would supposedly be the essential source of luck or blessings that one could not do without!
In short, producing primarily negativity and failure becomes a guarantee of success and necessity?
The ancestors of slaves could not protect them, and now those same ancestors would protect others?
Why refuse to see that this simply lacks common sense?
If you are practicing these things, repent! They will only produce serious misfortunes for their practitioners.
II. What the Bible Reveals About These Practices
Promises of curses made to the Israelites who engage in such practices (communicating with the dead, spirits, diviners, enchanters, magicians…).
I remind you that, contrary to what has been made to believe, the Israelites of the Bible were primarily black Africans (but not exclusively).
Slavery
Deuteronomy 28:41 – Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand.
Deuteronomy 28:64 – And the LORD shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
Colonization
Deuteronomy 28:33 – A people which thou knowest not shall eat up the fruit of thy land, and of all thy labours; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed continually.
Ask yourself why the West, which culturally and collectively detached fastest from these things, is the one that surpassed you in science, enslaved, and colonized you?
Other Biblical References
a) 1 Chronicles 10:13 – So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it.
b) Leviticus 20:6 – And the soul that turneth after mediums and familiar spirits, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people.
c) Deuteronomy 18:9-13 – When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you… any that consulteth the dead. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD…
d) 1 Timothy 2:5 – For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
e) Romans 8:26 – Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Those in error, or dishonest people encouraging consultation with the dead, carefully avoid quoting these verses, yet they will talk about Jesus’ transfiguration with their mistaken interpretation.
Key Example: Saul Consulting Samuel
The 1 Chronicles verse is interesting because Saul consulted the prophet Samuel, the last judge of Israel, whose words from God were infallible. The woman conjuring Samuel said she saw “a god ascending” (1 Samuel 28:13). Saul was punished with death for this act (1 Chronicles 10:13).
Let no one tell you that the dead you wish to consult are “alive,” because God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (cf. Jesus Christ). If consulting the dead were permissible, Saul would not have been punished.
III. Christians Should Not Rely on These Practices
The fundamental problem is treating the dead or parts of their bodies as entities to pray to, or as intermediaries between oneself and God.
Such a practice was never sanctioned by God in the Bible.
Those claiming they need these things, even citing some biblical reference, are effectively pagans, not Christians.
The word “luck” does not exist in the Bible. Christians rely on God’s grace, not luck. Those who think they are Christian but complain of “bad luck” do not truly understand faith.
Using ancestors as intermediaries is unacceptable because you cannot choose an intermediary that God forbade. True believers access God directly through Christ.
Those who seem to solve problems through these practices while previously finding no solution at church have never truly known Christ. Any temporary solution is a trap; problems resurface later, and the soul is at risk.
This cult is an act of disbelief, believing that God is insufficient and requiring help He forbade. If God is all-powerful and promises grace and protection, why rely on the dead?
Idolaters and unbelievers will not inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
IV. Jesus’ Transfiguration
Some argue that Jesus speaking with Elijah and Moses on the mountain proves one can speak with the dead.
Matthew 17:2-8 (KJV) –
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him…
Observations:
-
The transfiguration was a vision, like a waking dream.
-
The apostles did not speak to Moses or Elijah.
-
The vision strengthened the testimony of Christ as fulfilling the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah).
-
Seeing does not grant permission to imitate; Christ had authority over life and death.
No human may speak to the dead because they do not possess Christ’s power. Claims otherwise are delusional and dangerous.
V. Conclusion
If you do not have the attributes of Jesus Christ, know that it is forbidden to speak to the dead, whether called ancestors, saints, Mary, or otherwise.
This practice leads to death, perdition, and God’s wrath.
God is sufficient. Christianity is not syncretism. Those practicing communication with the dead separate themselves from the God of Jesus Christ.
If you believe you need these things, your Christianity is false. Become a true Christian.
